Willie Muirel Freeman, also known as “Wild Willie,” a beloved figure in his community, passed away on February 20, 2025, at the age of 83. He was born on July 22, 1941, in Amite County, Mississippi, and lived a life characterized by dedication, compassion, and a deep love for his family.
Willie's career spanned an impressive 30 years at Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company, where he was known as a hard worker and a reliable colleague. His work ethic was matched by his commitment to those he loved, qualities that made him beloved by friends and family alike. Additionally, he proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years, an experience that reflected both his patriotism and dedication to service.
Those who knew Willie would undoubtedly describe him as a caring, patient man with an open heart—often identified as a talker who made everyone feel at ease. He was unselfish in nature, always putting the needs of others before his own. Willie's warm personality left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.
His hobbies and interests included hunting and spending time with family, passions that brought him joy and allowed him to connect with his loved ones. Willie was also a workaholic who took pride in everything he undertook, but his greatest pride stemmed from his family. He also spent some time coaching baseball and softball. He enjoyed singing in his church choir, Ridgetop First Baptist Church.
He is survived byhis children, Cynthia Hinson, Stephen Freeman, Douglas (Buffy) Freeman, and Kenneth Freeman, who continue to carry his legacy forward.
Willie's legacy is beautifully embodied by his grandchildren—Brandon, Rebecca, Margaret, Dewight, Tiffany, and Stacy—as well as his fourteen and a half great-grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as Pawpaw Freeman. These relationships were among his proudest accomplishments and brought him immense joy throughout his life.
Willie was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Geraldean Freeman, who offered him unwavering support and companionship throughout their years together. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Claudie Freeman, and his brothers, Freddie Freeman and Bennie Joe Freeman.
Visitation services for Willie Muirel Freeman will be held at Springfield Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Springfield, TN. The first visitation will take place on February 24, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a second visitation on February 25, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will occur the same day from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, with burial to follow at Springfield Memory Ga0-rdens.
Willie's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him as a true good man, leaving behind a wealth of cherished memories and a family proud to carry forward his spirit of love and kindness.
