Walter Noel Wallace, a loving family man and respected respiratory therapist, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, in Springfield, Tennessee. Born on May 2, 1932, in Nashville, Tennessee, Walter dedicated 38 years of his life as a respiratory therapist at Baptist Hospital, where he touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues with his expertise and compassion.
Walter was not only known for his professional dedication but also for his vibrant personality. He was kind, funny, and loved deeply by his family. His quirky sense of humor brought joy to those around him, providing laughter and warmth in every gathering. Family was paramount to Walter, and he cherished the time spent with his wife, Ellen Wallace. He also enjoyed close relationships with his sister-in-laws, Ann (Jim) Vaughn, Peggy McCulloch, Carolyn Aldridge, and brother-in-law, Richard (Hilary) Long, alongside a host of nieces and nephews who looked up to him with admiration and affection.
Walter was not only a cherished family member but also had a passion for racing. He was a former NASCAR driver, competing in four Nextel Cup Series events during his career. His debut race in 1966 at Bristol marked the beginnings of his racing journey, culminating in memorable experiences on the track, particularly in Nashville. He was track champion twice at Nashville Speedway and inducted into the Track Hall of Fame. After hanging up his driving suit, Walter was a NASCAR official for many years, maintaining his involvement in racing. These proud accomplishments were standout moments in his life, representing his adventurous spirit.
In addition to his professional achievements and love for racing, Walter enjoyed traveling, particularly on trips out West, creating cherished memories that he shared with his loved ones.
Walter leaves behind his beloved wife, Ellen, his son Wally and wife Patty, and three grandchildren. He is also survived by his dear sister-in-laws, Ann (Jim) Vaughn, Peggy McCulloch, and Carolyn Aldridge, brother-in-law Richard (Hilary) Long, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Janie Wallace; brother-in-law, Jesse Aldridge and sister-in-law, Linda Long.
Walter Noel Wallace will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family and career, his kind spirit, and his zest for life. He leaves a lasting legacy of love and laughter that will endure in the hearts of those who knew him.
