Sharon Marie Snider Dartt, a beloved songwriter, pianist, and gospel singer, passed away on February 16, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of fearlessly sharing her faith in Jesus Christ. She was born in Sheridan, Wyoming on November 9, 1946, the third of eight Snider children. Throughout her life, Sharon embodied a very literal belief in the Word of God, touching the lives of anyone she spoke to by counting her blessings and pointing out how our Heavenly Father always works things together for good, no matter how dire the situation may appear.
Sharon was a 1963 graduate of Los Altos High School in Hacienda Heights, California. She married Tracy Gail Dartt in 1964, and they soon embarked on a lifelong journey of traveling music evangelism. Sharon strove to serve the Lord, and she concerned herself pursuing relationships and accomplishments with eternal value rather than acquiring material wealth or possessions.
A dedicated wife and mother, Sharon supported Tracy’s solo ministry by arranging accompaniment for his songs and playing the piano while he sang them. Sharon homeschooled her children; Don, Peachy, Frosty, and Stoney, while the family traveled. Sharon also taught in the Christian school they attended when the family settled in Sherman, Texas, in the early 80’s.
In addition to her love for music and teaching, Sharon faithfully kept lists of prayer requests for family and friends, and she diligently recorded the answered prayers to show thankfulness and gratitude to God, always pointing to Him as the source of our provision and guidance to honor His will for our lives. Later, Sharon would play a role as pastor’s wife when Tracy pastored the Auberry First Baptist Church in Auberry, California, from 1988-1994.
In 1995, Tracy, Sharon, and sons Forrest and Stone Mountain formed a family gospel group, "The Dartts”, a ministry out of Napa Valley Baptist Church in Napa, California. Forrest was with the group until April of 1996. The Dartts carried on as a trio from that point until January 2005 when they became a quartet once again with the addition of vocalist BJ Speer, who traveled with the group until The Dartts ended their touring. The Dartts traveled the USA from coast to coast and border to border, and they frequently toured the Canadian Maritimes as well as Ontario. They also performed in France, Belgium, Norway, and Switzerland, and on 12 Gospel sailings to the Caribbean, to New England and the Canadian Maritimes, and to Alaska. The group averaged 200 concerts per year. Sharon wrote several important songs for the group, such as; Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Little Grey House With the Clothesline, and The Colors of Another World.
In 2008, The Dartts moved to Greenbrier, Tennessee, where they attended the Lights Chapel Baptist Church. Sharon often played the piano for the services, and she was thrilled to collaborate with other musicians at the church. Sharon also loved to keep a blessing book, and she shared the practice with her family and friends. Sharon loved birds, angels, and dolls, and she often prayed for her dolls to come to life before she grew up and had children of her own.
