Robert Mitchell Davis, age 82 of Gallatin, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2008. Mr. Davis was an intellectual man who grew up in the Panama Canal area. He had been a pharmacist for many years. He owned his own apothecary store in Gallatin and worked for VA Hospitals in Oklahoma and Murfreesboro. He and his wife taught Anatomy and Pharmacology to the first LPN Class of Sumner Memorial Hospital where his wife served 17 years as director of nursing and also many years as director of nursing at McKendree Village. He was an active member in the Tennessee Pharmacists Association. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and Memphis, University of North Carolina; a graduate of Peabody College in Education; an instructor at Wofford University; and a past principle of Humboldt High School. He had been an active member in the Sumner County Schools through PTA. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as a Superintendent of the Sunday School Classes, and active in Methodist Men. He was a member of the Lions Club of Gallatin. His hobbies included genealogy, swimming, and the love of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; Herbert Carson and Lilly Elizabeth Davis; and wife, Barbara Loraine Bourne Davis. He is survived by his daughter; Mary Loraine Davis of Gallatin, sisters; Mary Ruth Bowman Dr. Frank of Durango, CO, Janet Gairhan of Covington, TN; nephews, David Gairhan Jr., Peter Marshall Gairhan, Daniel Gairhan, Frank Bowman Jr., Herbert Bowman, and Robert Bowman. Funeral service will be conducted on Friday, September 5 at 4:00 P.M. from the chapel of Gallatin Funeral Home with Rev. Felix Snell, Rev Carleton Thackston, and Bob Snell officiating. Interment will follow in the Gallatin Memory Gardens at Crestview. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Christensen Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church, and members of the Lions Club of Gallatin. Visitation will begin on Thursday, September 4 at 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. and will resume on Friday at 1:00 P.M. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church General Fund, Sumner Regional Medical Center, Lions Club International Vision Program, or the American Cancer Society.
