Oliver W. "Ollie" Perkins, age 89, of Hendersonville, TN formerly of Akron, OH, passed away March 17, 2009. Mr. Perkins served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked as a farmer after his discharge from the Navy and married the late Virginia Earliwine Perkins. They moved to Akron, where he worked at Goodyear Aerospace for over 30 years, working on parts for the Goodyear Blimp, as well as military equipment. He spent the last five years living in Hendersonville with his daughter and son-in-law. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, Walter and Etta Groves Perkins; his daughter, Shirley Ann Perkins, and his brother, Edison Perkins. He is survived by his daughters, Terri Rick Witzberger and Linda Edgar Bissell; his sisters, Barbara Marion Hopper, Kathryn Whiteley, Evelyn Wright and Della Ernie Knecht; his brother, William Perkins; his grandchildren, Jeremy Witzberger, Krystal Brandon Gaines and Todd Metcalfe and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 A.M., Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Newcomer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Bane officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 P.M. until 9 P.M., Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the Hendersonville Funeral Home and from 6 P.M. until 9 P.M., Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Akron. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203. Arrangements are entrusted to Hendersonville Funeral Home.
