Mildred Lipscomb Rusk, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away on November 13, 2024, at 4:55 p.m.
Born on September 7, 1930, in Springfield, Tennessee, to Jesse and Annie Ellis, Mildred was a lifelong resident of the area. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Lipscomb, with whom she shared 33 years of marriage until his passing in 1988, and her second husband, E.S. Rusk, who passed away in 2018.
Mildred is survived by her children, Cheryl Hudgins (Jim) and Michael Lipscomb (Melanie); brother, Aubrey Ellis (Faye); cherished grandchildren: Brooke Wilson (Jarred), Amanda Smith (Jimmy), Margo Pressley (Ben), Megan Cooksey (Colton), Matthew Lipscomb, and Bernie Hudgins (Carrie). She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: Kolby, Kelton, Ryder, Remington, Raelynn, Caitlyn, and Colton, along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family who were dear to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Margie Holman (Russell); and her brothers, James Boyd Ellis,and William Ellis (Ruth), and great-granddaughter, Kambree Reese McCarroll.
Mildred was a lifelong, faithful member of Martin’s Chapel Methodist Church, where she served with dedication for over 65 years. She was also a devoted volunteer as one of the “Pink Ladies” at NorthCrest Hospital, where she was honored for more than 30 years of service. A long-time member of the First District Homemaker's Club, she took great pride in her community involvement and her friendships.
Known for her kind and generous spirit, Mildred enjoyed play cards with a competitive edge and a special knack for baking delicious banana bread. She will be fondly remembered for her unwavering Christian faith, her joyful love of sending cards, and her ability to make those around her feel cherished and loved.
Her family finds comfort knowing she is now resting in the arms of the Lord, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A Life Celebration will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Martin’s Chapel Methodist Church, 2046 Martin’s Chapel Church Road, Springfield, TN 37172, with Brother Bob Hargrove officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the service time. Burial will follow at Springfield Memorial Gardens.
