KERN – Mildred Ethelene Brown, 92, of Nashville, passed away on Thursday, the seventh of May, following complications from hip surgery. Mildred was born on May 28, 1915, in Cross Plains, Tennessee, to John Mack and Mary Jane Whitaker Brown and remembered moving to Nashville in a horse-drawn wagon when she was a little girl. Throughout her long life, she was widely admired for her sense of independence, her strong work ethic, and her example of living life with dignity and determination–to the very end. These traits will be forever inspiring. Having had little education herself, she was proudest that her daughters, Peggy Kern Dennis of Atlanta, GA, and Ann Kern Gasser of Alpharetta, GA, who survive her, received good educations and established strong families. She adored her sons-in-law, Bob and Dan. She had three granddaughters, Cindy Gasser Wilson, Vicky Gasser Gormanly, and Marianne Dennis Cochran; three grandsons, Daniel K.Gasser, David S. Gasser, and Robert F. Dennis Jr., and five great-grandchildren, Andrew Wilson, Natalie Gasser, and Elliot, William, and Rose Dennis. The family wishes to acknowledge their most profound and loving appreciation to Shelia Newman and her husband, David, for the unfaltering love, friendship, and care given to Mildred for the last many years of her life and to the very last day. It is they who made it possible for her to realize her greatest desire to live out her life in her home of fifty-two years. They are truly God's emissaries. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, at West Harpeth Funeral Home, 6962 Charlotte Pike. The Reverend Paul Baggett will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery, 7110 Highway 25E, Cross Plains, Tennessee, where she will at long last join her beloved family members. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from five to seven o'clock at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mildred's memory to: Arbor Baptist Church, 5803 Morrow Road, Nashville, Tennessee, 37209. Arrangements by West Harpeth Funeral Home, 6962 Charlotte Pk 615352-9400
