Mary Scarbrough

Mary Christine Scarbrough, age 67 of Springfield, passed away on November 18, 2020 at her home.

Born September 6, 1953 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Emma Cook Smoot. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter: Sarah Angelina "Angel" Scarbrough. On Wednesday, Mary received her greatest wish - to be reunited with her precious Angel.

Mary will be remembered for her beautiful spirit. She was sweet, compassionate and strong. Even though she had a big heart for others, her straightforward approach to life let you know exactly what she was thinking and what she believed. Her closest friends and family will fondly remember her strength as a survivor and victor over addiction. Just prior to her passing she celebrated 6 years of recovery with AA - a milestone to be celebrated.

She loved her personal family, her AA family, playing cards (Rummy, Uno and poker) and painting. She enjoyed coffee and sharing time with others, and adored the opportunity to brag on her husband, Jerry. In her down-time she enjoyed birdwatching on the patio and camping at Cheatham Dam.

In addition to her husband of 30 years, Jerry; she is survived by her children: Jon (Marie) Scarbrough, Drew (Amanda) Scarbrough, Christy Scarbrough, and Lacy Bennett; and a special daughter: Melissa Irving. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Bob (Isidra) Smoot, Barbara Phillips and Frances (Rudy) Rivera; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mary's family invites friends to join them in celebration of her life on Friday, November 27 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Springfield Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and go until service hour. Interment will follow in the Garden of Prayer in Springfield Memorial Gardens.
