DENNIS, Martha Mae Carter, age 79, of Kingston Springs, died Thursday, September 11, 2008, at the St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Martha, a native of New Market, AL, moved to Nashville in 1947 and graduated from the Andrew Jackson Business School. She then trained and worked as a nurse technician at Baptist Hospital. Martha married Bertram Barkley B.B. Dennis from Wycliffe, KY in 1949, and for 55 years until his death in 2004, this couple called the Nashville area "Home". They built two houses, one in Donelson and their dream home in Kingston Springs, adjoining the beautiful National Park at the Narrows of the Harpeth River. Martha worked for many years in their family-owned business, Rock Products, Inc., Nashville.
She is survived by three sons, Bertram Barkley Jay Dennis, Jr., Michael Carter Dennis, and Brian Anthony Dennis, all of Nashville. In addition she leaves grandchildren, a sister, Alice Dill, and numerous relatives and friends to cherish the memory of this courageous, intelligent, and incredibly interesting lady.
The family will receive friends from 5-8pm Friday, September 12, 2008, at the West Harpeth Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Saturday, September 13, 2008 in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
Those serving as pallbearers include, Jimmy Salmon, Tony Bluitt, Steve French, Frank Jeffus, Mike Apple, Jeremy Fentress, Rick Ammons, and Paul Pettit.
The family would like to say a special "Thank You" to the staff of Alive Hospice at St. Thomas Hospital for all of their care and concern.
