EVERS, Lorraine E. August 27, 2009. Preceded in death by parents Herb D. Long and Eva Phillips Long, brother Willard Long and husband of 36 years, W.O. "Tim" Evers. Survived by daughters Betty E. Wolfe of Huntingdon, TN and Eva Jerry Harris of Fairview, TN; grandchildren Teresa Bob Carnie of Huntingdon, TN, Dan Diane Wolfe of Pittsburg, PA and Frank Stephanie Wolfe of Humbolt, TN; five great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Evers' life was spent in education, her Sunday School class and gardening. She began teaching in Missouri in a two-room school with 54 students. After moving to Tennessee and working as principal of the Monroe County Elementary School, she was named County Supervisor of Teaching. When the family relocated to Nashville, she began a 23-year career with the Board of Education, teaching many years at Parmer Elementary School, which she thoroughly enjoyed. In the early days of Metro-Nashville school integration, she worked as a Resource Teacher at Napier Elementary School. Before her retirement in 1976, she also served as District II School Reading Consultant. She was an active member of the Belmont United Methodist Church, Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Nashville Rose Society, Home Demonstration Club and Civitan Club. As her many friends know, she particularly loved flowers and gave away countless perennials from her many flowerbeds. The family wishes to thank devoted caregivers Ramona McRee, Forestine Jones and Selma Lovrenovic, and later the memory support staffs at The Cumberland at Green Hills and Lakeshore The Meadows. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
