Joy was born on February 23, 1958. She was the daughter of Gilbert (Bud) and Ruth Nichols Dorris. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Wayne Dorris. She is survived by her husband Robert Todd, her sister Judy Anthony, her daughters Reanna Lehnertz and Sierra Todd, Sons in Law Mathew Lehnertz and Matthew Bridgers, and her granddaughter Katarina Lehnertz.
From a young age, she was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Greenbrier, Tennessee. She was a valued member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Grand Esther in 2002. Joy also served as Mother Advisor the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls of Old Hickory Assembly which she was dedicated to for many years. A graduate from Greenbrier High School and then Belmont University, she went on to be a nurse who worked tirelessly for over 35 years. Her service included several hospitals from Jessie's House to Centennial Medical Center and she taught nursing and wrote national nursing boards. She enjoyed the great outdoors, gardening, scuba diving, backpacking. Most of all she was dedicated to all her family.
She went to the celestial light above surrounded by her family on November 20th, 2020. Her visitation will be held at Springfield Funeral Home on Friday, November 27, 2020 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and then resume on Saturday, November 28, 2020 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday with her entombment to follow at Springfield Memorial Gardens.
