John Fowler Brasel, age 80 of Madison, formerly of Gallatin passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2009. A native of Jackson County, he was born to the late John and Flossie Brasel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Mr. Brasel was a member of the Rivergate Church of Christ. He was a song leader for many years in the Church's of Christ in Middle Tennessee and was instrumental in promoting the first Sunday Singings in Sumner County. Mr. Brasel retired from Sears with more than 25 years of service and more recently owned his own sewing machine repair and sales shop. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Odetta Brasel of Madison; son, Nick Brasel Krista of Tallahassee, FL; daughter, Janie Brasel of Nashville; grandchildren, Jay Brasel Valerie of Lebanon, Jared Brasel of Smyrna, Scott Brazzell Ashley of Gulfport, MS, Kristi Frances of Whitehouse, Megan Shepardson of Lake City, FL; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Odell Braswell Marie of Madison, Jonah Brasel of Donelson; numerous nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law Jim Sisco Charlene of Madison. Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Gallatin Funeral Home with Bro. Ed Blackwell, Bro. John Hayes, and Bro. Sellars Crain officiating. Interment will follow in the Memory Gardens at Crestview. Mike Hunley, Max Chaffin, and Morgan Moore will serve as Honorary pallbearers. Grandsons and nephews will serve as Active pallbearers. Visitation will begin on Friday from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and will resume on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. until service time.
