THOMPSON, Joe J. Age 74, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and businessman died of cancer complications December 17, 2006 at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin. Mr. Thompson was past president of Bi-Rite and Food Town Stores in Nashville and was past owner of HI-LO Supermarket. He also served on the board of the Bi-Rite Reality Company. Mr. Thompson was born on August 6, 1932 in Shelbyville, TN. He attended Tennessee Tech and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Thompson or "Pop" was a longtime resident of Brentwood and enjoyed playing golf, cheering his Cubs, Commodores and Titans and spending time with his family in his retirement. In addition to his wife, Clara, he is survived by two daughters, Deborah L. Moore John of Franklin and Melissa J. McMurtry Jim of Grayson, GA.; his grandchildren, J. Michael Moore Kelli, Kinsey and Caitlin McMurtry ; his sister, Billye Ann Locke Roy of Goodletsville and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home on Wednesday 4-8 p.m. and on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with a graveside service to follow with Pastor Ridley Barron of Ridgeview Community Church officiating. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the third floor oncology nurses at Williamson Medical Center and Drs. Pat Murphy, Jim McGinley and their staffs.
