James Douglas Porter

James Douglas Porter, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 6, 2023, in Springfield, TN at the age of 71. He was born on June 24, 1952, in Nashville. James will always be remembered for his remarkable career at Bridgestone as a tire builder for 30 years.

James had an undeniably adventurous spirit and was passionate about Harley Davidsons and riding his motorcycle with his wife, Patsy. He found solace and joy on the open road, cherishing every moment spent cruising alongside Patsy. His love for motorcycles further exemplified his vibrant personality and zest for life.

Alongside his love for motorcycles, James had a deep-rooted passion for cars and trucks.

His greatest accomplishment in life was undoubtedly becoming a PaPa to his grandchildren, Ginger "Vickie" Porter, Jasmine Porter, Logan Collins, and Haley Sneed. Their happiness brought boundless joy to his heart as he relished being an integral part of their lives. His family meant everything to him.

James leaves behind many loved ones who mourn his loss deeply but also celebrate the incredible impact he made on their lives. He is survived by his loving wife of nine years, Patsy Porter; devoted son Michael (Maria) Porter; stepsons Kevan (Hannah) Simpson, Bobby (Mandi) Simpson and family, Brian (Latitia) Simpson and family; siblings Bob (Pat) Porter, Nancy (Alvin) Hill, Doris James and a host of nieces and nephews, and best friend, Wayne Murphy.

James is preceded in death by his parents, N.S. and Sue Hankins Porter; daughter, Mandy Dozier and brother, Charles Nolan "Butch" Porter. His legacy will forever be etched in the hearts and minds of all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Services honoring James's life will take place at the Springfield Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 4005 Memorial Blvd, Springfield, TN 37172. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 pm then again on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A Celebration of Life ceremony will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Ashley Mofield. James will be laid to rest during the burial service starting at 2:00 PM on the same day.

James Douglas Porter has left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His compassion, humor, and love for his family will forever serve as a guiding light for those fortunate enough to have been touched by his presence.
