Homer Erskin Bonds Jr.Age 76 of Brentwood, Tennessee passed away Monday, March 23rd, 2009, after a long and valiant fight with cancer.
Preceded in death by his parents, Homer and EvelynDanleyBonds, and his son Christopher Erskin Bonds.
Survived by his wife of 50 years, AnneBracyBonds, daughter, Meril DavidGerstenmaier and grandson Stephen Stites all of Richmond, Virginia, stepdaughter Theresa White and stepgrandson Bradley White of Knoxville, Tennessee.
"Big E" as many of his closest friends lovingly called him, was born in Laurel, Mississippi. He graduated from the University of Mississippi Ole Miss with a BBA degree. He belonged to KA fraternity and Delta Sigma Pi honorary business fraternity.
After graduation he served in the US Navy as an officer in the Korean War. He was local sales manager in Nashville at WTVF, Channel 5, and subsequently owned Erskin Bonds Advertising Agency. Later he became Assistant Commissioner Tennessee Conservation & Environment, retiring in 1997.
A former member of Richland Country Club and Brentwood Country Club, he was an outstanding golfer.He was an Elder Emeritus of the Covenant Presbyterian Church and on occasion taught the Adult Fellowship Class. He and several friends established the Chris Bonds Scholarship at Ole Miss, which sends an outstanding student from the Nashville area to Ole Miss.
Funeral service will held at 10am March 28th, 2009 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 33 Burton Hills Blvd., Nashville, Tennessee, 37215. The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the church. Interment to follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens on Hwy 100.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Covenant Presbyterian Building Fund or Alive Hospice of Nashville, Tennessee.
Pallbearers are Stafford McNamee, Bob Pomeroy, Harold Crump, Ron Hankins, Ted Potter, and Phil Schulz. Honorary Pallbearers are Jim Barber, Charles Fentress, Bruce Hoffman, Bob Norling, Don Morris, Dr.John Lamb, Rob Barber, Stewart Bachman and the elders of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
