Herbert W. Ratliff age 85 of Cedar Hill passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 11, 1932 to the late Claude Everett and Arrie Beaterice Ratliff in Rison, Arkansas.
Mr. Ratliff grew up in the cotton fields of Arkansas with his 11 brothers and sisters. He joined the United States Air Force and while stationed at Sewart Air Force Base in Tennessee he met his future wife Ms. Nell Pack. They were married in 1956 and were blessed with their son Doyle.
He was a plumber for 45 years and after retiring he could enjoy his true passion in his Leather Shop. He could make anything from billfolds to bridles and horse saddles. Mr. Ratliff was also an avid coon-hunter owning Blue Ticks and Black and Tans most of his life. In later years his son, Doyle fenced off about 5 acers on the farm for them to set rabbits so that Mr. Ratliff could still enjoy hunting while close to the house.
He was a member of the Madison Lodge No. 762 for 48 years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ratliff is preceded in death by his siblings; Marcelle Ratliff, Darlene Noreene Parnell, Claude Allen Ratliff, Russell Melvin Ratliff and Troy Lewis Ratliff.
He is survived by he devoted wife of 61 years, Nell Ratliff; son, Doyle (Debbie) Ratliff; grandchildren, Jennifer (Derrick) Slayton and Jeremy (April) Ratliff; great-grandchildren, Ashley Miller, Brooklynn Ratliff, Rachel Slayton, Abigail Slayton and Eli Slayton; siblings, Dorothy Maw Moorehead, Milford Everett Ratliff, Frances Flossine Pfifer, Patsy Marie Malley, Carolyn Trousdale and L.B. Ratliff; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Masonic Service will be held on Wednesday August 2, 2017 at 10:00am; burial will follow at Springfield Memorial Gardens with Doyle Ratliff, Jeremy Ratliff, Derrick Slayton, Tiny Pippin, Stan Richards, and Thurman Bennett serving as pallbearers.
