BENNETT, Ernest Horace- passed away on May 17, 2013. He was born on October 1, 1921. Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; one sister; wives, Mary Charlotte Davis and Alice Arts Cole. He is survived by daughters, Sheri Fritz, Sister Lauren Cole, RSM, Madeline Garr Tony, Lisa Harris; sons, Ernest H. Bennett, Jr. and John T. Bennett Nancy; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Bennett Florence; sister, Emily Sue Bennett. He was a 1939 graduate of East Nashville High School and the class of 1949 Engineering School of Vanderbilt University. During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in September 1942 and served in the 78th Field Artillery Observation Battalion in the U.S. and the 292nd Field Artillery Observation Battalion with the Seventh Army in France and Germany. He returned from Europe and was discharged in November 1945. In 1950, he began a 35 year career with E.I. Dupont de Nemours Inc. with work assignments in Old Hickory, TN, Kinston, NC, Wilmington, DE, Martinsville, VA, Charleston, SC, and Chattanooga, TN. During the last sixteen years of his Dupont experience, he was Asst. Plant and Plant Manager of the Old Hickory Fibers Plant 1969-1974, Plant Manager of the Cooper River Dacron Plant, Charleston, SC 1974-1980, and Plant Manager of the Chattanooga Nylon Plant, TN 1980-1985. He retired December 31, 1985 in Chattanooga, and in August 1986, he and his wife, Alice, moved back to Nashville to reunite with family, old friends, a special bridge club created in 1950, play golf, and travel. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to Saint Matthew Church and School, Sisters of Mercy or your favorite charity. A Funeral Mass will be at 10 am on Tuesday, May, 21, 2013 at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation, Monday, 5-8 pm at the church.
