Edward James "Jim" Mulcahy, Jr., age 85 of Nashville passed away peacefully at St. Thomas surrounded by his family, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Mulcahy was born on August 20, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Edward James Mulcahy, Sr. and Marion Kenny Mulcahy. He joined the United States Army at a young age and proudly served for 24 years retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. After retirement from the military he continued to serve his country as a civilian working for the Veterans Administration as a claims specialist helping countless veterans to get the benefits that they were so deserving of. Even after he retired from the VA he continued to work with the Disabled American Veterans continuing his service to his country. A lifelong Catholic; he will be remembered for his humorous personality and his giving heart. Jim was a longtime New York Yankee fan and often told his children stories of being able to see the Yankees, Brooklyn Dodgers and Giants play all in one day. Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus, was a Mason and member of the Al Menah Shrine Temple, VFW, American Legion Post 82, and the Loyal Order of the Moose. The family would like to thank the staff of the 7th Floor and ICU at St. Thomas Hospital for their care of Jim in his final days. He is survived by his children, Mike Mulcahy and Deborah A. Mulcahy both of Springfield; grandsons, James Michael Mulcahy (Emily) and Matthew Mulcahy (Jaclyn) and great-granddaughter, Kylie Ann Mulcahy. Services for Jim will be held in Springfield, TN where his children reside. A life celebration service will be held on Saturday, December 12th at 12:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Springfield Funeral Home with Father John Rafael officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Nashville Humane Association.
