Della Jernigan Ball passed away peacefully at Morningside Assisted Living in Springfield on Sunday morning, March 10, 2019. Visitation will be Saturday at the Main Street Church of Christ at 10:00 with a Celebration of her life at 11:00. A private family burial will take place at Springfield Memorial Gardens following the service.
Born December 24, 1921 in Springfield, Tn., Della was the daughter of the late Charles and Ida Jernigan. She was a lifelong resident of Robertson County and a graduate of Springfield High School. Della had a 30-year career at Fort Campbell as an administrator in civilian personnel. In 1947, she married Ken Ball who also worked on the base.
Della became a Christian as teenager and was involved in life of the Main Street church for over 80 years. She thrived on worship, Bible study, fellowship and encouraging others to be faithful to the Lord. Mrs. Ball organized a first-class church library, cataloging every book on computer for quick access. She was always concerned that the best learning resources be made available for children, teens, and adults.
Her last great project was six volumes of scrapbooks containing the history of the Main Street Church of Christ in pictures, articles, and related items. Some of Ms. Della's love for history went back to America's founding. She was an active member of the Charlotte Reeves Robertson chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for many years.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years Ken Ball and 2 brothers, Ruby Jernigan and Bonnie Jernigan. She is survived by her daughter, Pat Felts; grandchildren, Scott Felts and his wife, Adrienne and Ann Claire Hoch and her husband, Scottie; and 5 great grandchildren, Melina, Jude, Micah, Levi and Caroline.
The family request in lieu of flowers donation be made to Main Street Church of Christ, its library, benevolence, or building fund. 319 N. Main Street, Springfield Tn. 37172.
These arrangements were entrusted to Springfield Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home, and Cremation Center 4005 Memorial Blvd Springfield, TN 37172 615-613-1211 www.SpringfieldFH.com
