Dean Russell McClain, 77, of Springfield passed away Friday March 25, 2022. Born September 11, 1944 in Pasadena, CA, Dean was the son of the late Russell McClain and Pauline Harman McClain. Dean was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deana McClain; and two brothers, Dick and Ronnie McClain. Dean was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force and had served two tours in Vietnam. A combat engineer and production control technician while in the Air Force, Dean had been a member of the Red Horse Battalion and had retired as a Staff Sergeant in 1993. In his retirement he continued to work framing houses. He was a member of American Legion Post 45 in Greenbrier. Dean was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting deer and turkey as well as fishing and camping. A loving and “gentle man”, Dean married Sylvia Melton Mears in 1993. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; a son, Daryl McClain; step-sons, Jerry Mears and Terry Mears (Kerrie); and two grandsons, Joshua and Joseph Mears. Visitation will be held at Springfield Funeral Home, 4005 Memorial Blvd., Springfield, TN on Wednesday, March 30th from 11 am until 2 pm. A celebration of life service will be held at the funeral home at 2 pm. Interment with military honors will follow at Springfield Memorial Gardens.
