Cross Plains

Darlene Jackson Whitson, born on February 28,1958, in Russellville, Kentucky to the late George and Mary Jackson, and a devoted resident of Cross Plains, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024 at Alive Hospice in Nashville. A loving wife, mother, and friend, Darlene dedicated her life to caring for others through her work in Pediatrics and Labor & Delivery.

Darlene's educational journey began at Olmstead High School, followed by her training as a Licensed Practical Nurse through Jesse Holman Jones Hospital where she worked from 1978 until the hospital moved to NorthCrest Medical Center where she continued her career until 2001. Her nurturing spirit and deep commitment to her patients were evident throughout her career, where she made a significant impact on countless lives.

A woman of many passions, Darlene cherished her time spent roller skating in her youth and held a special fondness for camping at Bench Bend with her best friend Teressa. She loved traveling to the Smoky Mountains, often finding joy in exploring new places during her vacations with her husband, William, and son, Michael. Their adventures took them to unique destinations, making lasting memories as they explored the beauty around them.

Darlene was deeply caring and always sought to do for others. She took immense pride in being Michael's mom first and foremost—a role she considered her greatest accomplishment, surpassing even her professional achievements as an LPN. To those who knew her, she was a true testament of what kindness and compassion was and the love and warmth that radiated from her to those closest to her.

She also leaves behind beloved family members, including her husband, William L. Whitson; son, Michael Whitson; nephews, Donald Charles Stevens and Curtis Wayne Cooper and niece, Linda Darlene Cooper. Additionally, Darlene is survived by her brother-in-law, Richard Cooper. Her warm and loving personality drew many friends into her life, including her best friend of 60 years, Teressa (Roger) Turns, who shared countless memories of laughter and support with Darlene. In addition to her parents, Darlene is preceded in death by her sister, Diane Jackson and sister-in-law Linda Cooper

Darlene's legacy will be felt widely, remembered not only for her professional dedication but also for the joy she brought into the lives of her loved ones.
