Cora Smithee

Cora Elizabeth Smithee, age 89, died Tuesday December 14, 2021 at her home in Springfield, TN. A New Year’s baby, Cora was born to the late Ivy & Trina Hall on January 1, 1932 in Valliant, OK. She was the third out of five children.

Cora loved the Lord with every fiber of her being, loved reading her Bible “cover to cover” many times in her life and was a prayer warrior. Cora was also a loving stay at home mom who never worked outside of the home while her kids were young. She chose to raise her children and see to their needs. She was a fierce advocate for her kids and family. Later in life, Cora began work at her local Pregnancy center, going once a week into the office to meet with, encourage and pray with any person who was in need. She loved people and loved lending a hand whenever she could. Because of her faith, she began to look forward to the day she could go and be with her husband, siblings and other family that had gone before her.

Cora is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Claudie Allen Smithee; her brothers Wilburn Hall and Kenneth Hall; and her sisters Shirley Hall and Paula Hall Jackson.

Cora is survived by her four children: Helen Freeman (Terry), Michael Smithee (Kathy), Sharon Higgins (Michael), and Shelia Buffington (Eugene). She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Service will be held this Monday at 12pm at the Springfield Funeral Home with Rev. Buddy Hagerman officiating. Burial will follow at Springfield Memorial Gardens with Tim Smithee, Eugene Buffington, Gus Gaches, Philip Michael, Paul Venable and Buddy Hill serving as pallbearers.
