RICHARDSON, Cody Edgar, Sr. of Nashville, Tennessee. Age 92. August 27, 2010. Cody was born in Williamson County, Tennessee the eldest child of Ellis L. and Flara Jones Richardson. His brothers, Elmer, Vernon, Gene, Leonard, and Leo preceded him in death. Cody was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Thelma Elizabeth Brake Richardson. Survived by his two sons, Cody E, Jr. Marilyn of Hendersonville, TN and William Eddie Dee of Spartanburg, SC; five grandchildren, Leslie Davis Brian, Lindsay Walker Greg, Jonathan "Jack," Anna, and Ellen Richardson, and four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Wyatt Davis and Blake and Amberly Walker; sister, Virginia Smith; brother Randall Richardson Fay. Cody was educated in Nashville city schools and was a graduate of Watkins Institute. An active member of McKendree United Methodist Church for over 60 years, Mr. Richardson taught Sunday School at the Metro Nashville Fire Department Engine Company 13 for over forty years. He was recognized for his service to the Fire Department in recent years by the naming of a fire engine in his honor. A thirty-four year employee of Sears, Mr. Richardson remained active in the retirees group until recently. Cody was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite member of Claiborne Masonic Lodge 293, and was an eighteen-year member of Gideon's International. Cody, "Rich" to many friends and family, enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, and was known to have "never met a stranger," often inquiring of paternal lineage in order draw associations. Cody was well-read and loved to banter about politics. Honorary pallbearers are past and present firefighters of the Nashville Fire Department Engine Company 13, members of the West camp of Gideon's International, The Jubilate Choir at McKendree Church, Gene Thompson, Bill McGill, Howard and David Mangrum, Glen Cunningham, and Daniel Hicks. Active pallbearers are grandson Jonathan "Jack" Richardson, Brian Davis, Greg Walker, nephews Roy Richardson, Bob Richardson, and Vernon Martin, Jr. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday with burial to follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
