Bettye Summers McMurtry, 83, a long-time resident of Greenbrier, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, July 11, 2021. Born July 22, 1937 in Robertson County, TN she was the daughter of the late James C. Summers and Lena Starks Summers. Bettye was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy Alan McMurtry, and infant son, Patrick G. McMurtry, two brothers, J.C. Summers, Jr. and Joe Summers, and sister Ann Summers Spears. She is survived by her sister Patricia Nauman, her daughter Stephanie and husband Dan Moore, her son Shannon McMurtry, eight grandchildren, Brandon (Jenny), Lindsay, Megan (Steven), Taylor (Tiffany), Joshua (Lindsy), Eric (Colleen), Jordan, Ian, and thirteen great grandchildren. Bettye and Alan had been married for 48 years when he passed in 2005. She graduated from East Robertson High School and was retired from the Tennessean Gannett where she had worked delivering newspapers throughout Robertson County for 35 years. Bettye was a woman with a strong faith in her Lord and was a long-time member of Greenbrier United Methodist Church, where she watched services online when she was no longer able to attend in person. Bettye was an avid football fan and loved the Tennessee Titans, the Dallas Cowboys and all SEC football. Most of all, she loved her family deeply and delighted in spending time with them. Visitation for Bettye will be held Monday from 4 to 8 pm at Springfield Funeral Home. A celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday at 11 am followed by inurnment at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Greenbrier United Methodist Church.
