JONES, Abner Douglas "A. D.", Age 84 of Hendersonville passed away peaceably at NHC on Saturday June 15, 2013. He was born in Dickson County and grew up in Old Hickory. A. D. graduated from Dupont High School in 1946, served in the US Army and attended Union University. He worked for Dupont in Old Hickory starting in 1948, then transferred in 1952, and spent the rest of his career at the Savannah River Plant in Aiken, SC until he retired in 1987. He and his wife Polly traveled extensively over the US and Mexico in their motor home. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching baseball and football on TV. Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Polly Mayhugh Jones; parents, Wardie & Naomi Jones; brothers, Glenn and Doyle Jones; sisters, Nettie Mai Worrell, Hazel Miller, Audrey Gourley, Louise DeLoach and Jewell Duke. Survived by sister, Reba Hannah Gene & brother, Tommy Jones Mary. A Life Celebration will be held 2pm Tuesday June 18, 2013 at Hendersonville Funeral Home with Dr. Roger Luther officiating. Burial to follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are residents of Park Place Retirement Center and the Bill Hall Sunday School Class at First Baptist in Hendersonville. Visitation will be 4-8pm Monday & 12-2pm Tuesday at funeral home. Special thanks to the staff at NHC for the wonderful care they gave A. D. the last 14 months. Memorial contributions may be made to the SOS Backpack Ministry at First Baptist or Hope Center Ministries.
